Painting has begun

So painting has gotten underway. The last few days, the kitchen and family room have been painted. Now, the kitchen is nice and bright yellow (minus the few touch-ups I have to do tonight) and the family room is green. I'll have to post some before & after pics in the coming days. My MIL and FIL helped a bunch, so we actually made some good progress for our first weekend.

My MIL and I spent quality time in the master bedroom half-bath all day Saturday and Sunday (10+ hours each day) working on stripping the ugly wallpaper that was there. The worst part was that there were 2-3 layers of paper on each wall and the ceiling, and each had to be done individually. And to make matters worse, it was the same paper in each layer, pieced in to match the pattern underneath, so there was nothing fun to even look at! We ended up renting a steamer because after 2 1/2 hours with the paper tiger and a bottle of fabric softener Saturday, we only managed to uncover about 1 square foot. I still have to battle the area behind the toilet where the paper layers alternate with thin layers of plaster- I think a good sanding should do the trick.

The floors are looking good!

I peeked at the floors last night , and B did today at lunch (which is another story*). They are looking great! B talked to the floor guy today, and he is even screening the ends of the stairs so that they match the floors perfectly, which is a bonus! And we did get the fridge we had planned on. We ordered it Tuesday night, and it should be delivered March 9th.

*The neighbors were concerned 2 windows were left open a bit last night upstairs to vent the house. They called the realtors who contacted us, and B went to make sure everything was ok. Needless to say, it was.

Still waiting patiently...

Well, the floors are still being worked on, which continues to hold things up on our end. The sanding is done, and the poly coats should start going on today. All we can really do today is work on packing and buy a fridge. It's super hard to choose, but I think we have settled on this one.

So we bought some paint...

The only color we have decided on so far is the kitchen. Well, really I decided, and B is going along with it. We're going with Bicycle Yellow, which should make the room bright, and should go well with the dark cabinets and all of my yellow and green kitchen stuff. And then this weekend we are going refrigerator shopping. The plan is to find a stainless steel one with french doors.

The house is ours!

We have closed and everything went great. Now we get to turn over the keys to the floor refinisher until the 28th, and then the real fun can begin!
